Preventing Fires

• The first step toward prevention is good housekeeping.

• Test the atmosphere before & during hot works.

• Use spark containment (the action of keeping something harmful under control or within limits)

• Inspect all tools and equipment.

• Inspect all connections and hoses for leaks.

• Equipment should be properly grounded.

• Cool down areas where spark is travel. Don’t allow junk to accumulate, especially flammables  like paint thinner, solvents, gasoline, diesel, etc.

• Always store flammable liquids in approved containers and never store  gasoline in unmarked cans.

• Finally, always dispose of used rags in approved containers. Rags that have  been saturated with solvents or thinner and left in the open are prone to  spontaneous combustion.
