What is a confined space?

  • Any space with limited or restricted openings for entry and exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy, or
  • Any space with a potential danger of solid, liquid, or vapor engulfment, or

Any space where the combination of poor ventilation and difficulty of access/escape poses a risk of a person being affected by one or more of the following:

1) A fire or explosion.
2) Oxygen deficiency or enrichment.
3) Heat or cold.
4) Flowing solids and liquids.
5) Gases, vapors, mists or dusts.
